The Willamette Valley Clean Water Alliance is a 501 (c) 3 located in Eugene, OR. The purpose of the Alliance is to protect and enhance water quality within the Willamette Valley and adjoining watersheds. By working with related organizations, the WVCWA engages in education, outreach, and mutual assistance to ensure that individuals, organizations, and communities understand and have a deep, abiding appreciation for the importance of our water resources for all uses – environmental, industrial, agricultural, domestic, and recreational.
Water permeates the entire ecosystem – the soil, land, forest, urban environment, and dictates human activity. Through a delicate, harmonious balance all are dependent upon water resources and clean water too is dependent upon the cooperation of such entities. It is this co-dependence of the entire system that the Willamette Valley Clean Water Alliance emphasizes in its educational and outreach efforts.
Using technical and financial resources contributed by individuals, businesses, foundations, and government entities, the WVCWA leverages these resources to focus and coordinate efforts for water and watershed protection, education, and enhancement beyond the abilities of a single player.
As an example, the Willamette Valley Clean Water Alliance works closely with the Upper Willamette Soil and Water Conservation District to share technical expertise and facilities thereby leveraging these resources for maximum efficient use. Education and outreach ultimately have longer lasting and more effective impacts that regulatory agencies can achieve alone.
The WVCWA predicates its activities on the assumption that the general population, in its daily activities, does not intentionally commit actions that negatively affect the environment and water quality. Rather they do not consider the impact of their actions at all. By working in concert with others, we strive to increase public awareness through education and outreach using appropriate activities, experiences, and actions that create a positive contribution to watershed health.
We never know the worth of water till the well is dry. ~Thomas Fuller, Gnomologia, 1732
